Iran Calls for United Muslim Front Against Israel, Warns of NPT Exit Over Sanctions
Following recent strikes on Qatar, Iranian officials are urging the creation of a unified Muslim military force to counter what they perceive as escalating Israeli aggression. This call to action comes as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) prepares for an emergency summit in Qatar on September 15th.
Concerns Over Regional Security and the Need for Collective Defense
Mohsen Rezaei, a prominent member of Iran’s Expediency Council, voiced concern that Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Iraq could be future targets of Israeli attacks if the OIC fails to take decisive action. He emphasized the urgent need for a collective defense strategy, stating, “The only solution is forming a military coalition,” according to Iranian media reports. Echoing this sentiment, a Shia cleric leading the Assembly of Seminary Students’ Representatives in Qom also advocated for the formation of a joint Islamic army.
Iran’s Warning on Nuclear Treaty Withdrawal
Adding to the already tense situation, Iran warned of potential withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) if snapback sanctions are imposed. This strong stance highlights the complex interplay of regional security concerns and the ongoing nuclear negotiations.
