Nair expressed her shock and dismay at the situation. The fragrant gajra, a common adornment for women in South India, unknowingly violated Australia’s strict biosecurity laws. These regulations are in place to protect the country’s agriculture and environment from potential pests and diseases that could be carried on plant material.
Nair Appeals to Australian Authorities
The actor has formally appealed to the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, seeking a waiver for the fine. She is hopeful that the authorities will understand the cultural significance of the gajra and reconsider the penalty.
